He had long been its pastor, and it had seen numerous seasons of revival, ranging from the Second Great Awakening through to the Finney Nettleton Revivals, and into the then happening Prayer Revival begun at Fulton Street, also in New York. Spring, a natural conservative, invited Finney to the
